The cradle of Europe's civilisation is in Greece and carries a name: Athens. The site has been inhabited since the Neolithic age, some 6,000 years ago, In antique times, Athens reached its zenith in the 5th century B.C when the city democratic values and its civilisation served as a model for the rest of the world. Athens acropolis is the proud testimony of that age. The hill dominates today modern Athens and is crowned by the majestic Parthenon temple. Around the parthenon with its perfect shape are many other temples and structures evoking Athens' grandeur. The gracious Erechteion with its caryatids dedicated to goddess Athena, the Propylaea which served as the entry gate to the Acropolis, with the charming temple of Athena Victory. A day or even more are necessary to discover all the treasures of Old Athens.
